About this deal

The cards are primarily black and white, with little flecks of all four suit colors throughout, and each is illustrated with a small black cat. On the white (easy) side, you can make a contiguous group by having several cards of the same value. This design also solves the primary problem of quantum physics, which is how we get from the multiple probabilistic outcomes of the wave to a specific measured position, by way of human agency – reinforcing the Von Neumann-Wigner angle. Also, if they managed to predict correctly, they get one point for each connected piece they have on the board in the largest grouping (so purple above would get 3 points for the Red 4, Blue 4, Blue 3 chain, but no points for the Yellow 6 or Green 5). Although the box says 14 and up, I think younger players who are familiar with trick-taking games would be able to learn this as well; there’s nothing inappropriate in the theme.

It’s a small difference, but makes it a bit more of a puzzle to decide how you want to play your cards. Unlike games where you're actually subject to the draw that you've gotten, in this game you're able to change the impact of that draw based on what other players are doing.Once you’ve declared a suit color for the card you played, you then take a player token and place it on a central game board grid essentially eliminating that card from the game for the remainder of the round. I think that’s very silly, and very fun, and I love that there’s an even more complex version you can use that staggers the numbers so that they’re not just 1 – 9 in four adjacent rows. The hand immediately ends and while everyone else scores normally, you lose a point per trick you’ve won this round as a penalty. This was proven through experiment by shooting a wave of light, comprised of photons, at a surface with two slits. Players will need to use careful planning to execute a successful game while also meeting bidding requirements and scoring bonus points in an area control mini game.

Cat in the Box, for better or worse, does both of these things, which can really blitz a new player if you’re not careful. We have to talk about this for a minute before we can begin to understand Bezier Games’ Cat in the Box. The player count is now also expanded; the new game has rules (and cards) to allow play from two to five players. We’ve had some three-player games where two of the four colours went like that before things really started getting interesting. Play only continues until each player has one card left in their hand (if it gets that far) so you will essentially only be playing 8 cards in the round (assuming it gets that far).Additionally, as in dois and mantel, Cat in the Box features bidding where players must predict how many tricks they’ll win.
